Welcome!
Hello everyone, my name is Debbie Brown. I'd like to welcome you to my ePortfolio where I will be documenting my academic journey in the study of distance education, earning a Masters of Distance Education upon completion. You will find samples of my work, personal information and learning reflections throughout.
I am a graduate of Washington Adventist University, formerly Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, MD (BS in Healthcare Administration, 2009) and University of Maryland University College (MEd in Instructional Technology, 2012). I am currently a longterm substitute teacher for a kindergarten class in a Maryland public school. I plan to enter the certificate program (MCERT) at University of Maryland in the summer of 2013 where I will continue my journey to becoming a certified teacher within the public school system. I wanted to pursue this degree program because I would like to eventually teach within the k-12 realm of distance education. It is not as popular now but I would like to be ready when it is fully established and adopted.
I am from the beautiful island of Jamaica and have lived in Maryland for over 10 years. I have a 15 year old daughter who keeps me busy with her schedule especially on the weekends and with whom I love to spend time because I recognize she will be going off to college in a few short years. I enjoy experiencing new places and things, spending time with family and friends, drawing, a good book or movie and volunteering through the community services organization at my church. One of my most memorable volunteer opportunities was travelling to Tanzania with Global Vessels in the summer of 2007 where I helped in the construction of the second of the 10 homes planned for the selected orphans in Arusha. It was also the opening of the first completed house an feeling of being a part of decorating and escorting the kids into their new home, seeing the awe and excitement on their faces. I still get updates occasionally and would do it again.
Thanks for stopping by!
